The Stone Dance of the Chameleon
It was only towards the end of writing the Stone Dance that I became aware that what I had actually been labouring over was a kind of mythological summing up of my time on Earth...
I say "mythological" for two reasons. The first is that, though the Stone Dance is profoundly autobiographical, it is so in a way that eluded my awareness for years and that, though it is about me, I believe that it is also about you - and that seems to me to be what mythology is all about.
The second reason I claim it is mythological is that, while all the time my conscious mind was 'constructing' the world and story of the Stone Dance, it was my subconscious that was really the dominant force. There are deep undercurrents to the Stone Dance: I say this with all humility, for I have come to believe in Carl Jung's claims about our 'collective unconscious'. It was into this deepest of all waters that my subconscious sank - and this sea is the same that lies in the depths of each one of us. Beyond whatever clever conceits my creation might possess, it is to this connection to the sea in all of us that the Stone Dance owes any power it may have. If I have 'channeled' it well enough, then it could be that it is a rainbow, one foot rooted in my depths, the other in yours...
This part of my site is intended to be a companion to the Stone Dance written in the three parts: The Chosen, The Standing Dead, The Third God. I hope that it might provide you with material that will serve to enrich your experience.
The material itself consists mostly of maps and diagrams, some images, some spreadsheets, photographs of models and some original artwork - all of which I produced to aid me as I explored the world of the books...
