The Black Gate stands at the narrowest point of the Canyon of the Three Gates where it enters the crater of Osrakum. Passing through it, one finds oneself in the Valley of the Gate with its myriad stacks and pavements of hexagonal basalt. Descending this one reaches the shore of the Skymere. The Great Causeway carries a road across to the Ydenrim giving access to the Plain of Thrones and the Labyrinth.

Bells set into the Black Gate announce to the inhabitants of this hidden valley the entry of any one of the Chosen.
