Called the Southern Plain by the Chosen but known as the Earthsky by the Plainsmen, this is a plateau lower than that of the Guarded Land and separated from it by a gorge.

Where this gorge opens into the swamps lie the Leper Valleys which the Plainsmen have to cross to reach the pass that leads up to Makar and the Guarded Land.

The Earthsky is studded with the koppies of the Plainsmen.

At the far southern extremity of the Backbone ridge lies the Upper Reach of the Marula.
